Giant - Last Of The Runaways (19

Aside from pompous opener (a guitar solo Combustion, III is chock full of quality songs and tasty playing. Not all of the original members play on this release, but it definitely sounds like Giant, and front man Dan Huff plays/ sings like the old pro he is. For old fans of the band, I can assure that this is the Giant record we all hoped for. It might be even better than their legendary debut, Last of the runaways from 1989. Time will tell.

"We did some early smart buying, and it meant we didn't have to make what I call the 'desperate offers' where you have to take the best of what is out there," he says. "I am tickled to death with this lineup. You always want next year to be better than last year, and I now worry this year will be tough to beat."

Known for her melodic, no-nonsense rock'n'roll, Jett has been a face on the music scene since she was a teenager and a member of the all-girl group The Runaways. The band formed in 1975, released a debut album in 1976 and played its last show on New Year's Eve 1978.

She's currently touring with new CD, "Unvarnished," and a new single, "Any Weather." Earlier this month she was on "The Late Show with David Letterman," and last month appeared on "The Queen Latifah Show."

The year 1846 signaled new reversals to the antislavery cause and the beginnings of a dark new era in American politics. President Polk and his Democratic allies were eager to see western lands brought into the Union and were especially anxious to see the borders of the nation extended to the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Critics of the administration blasted these efforts as little more than land grabs on behalf of enslavers. Events in early 1846 seemed to justify antislavery complaints. Since Mexico had never recognized independent Texas, it continued to lay claim to its lands, even after the United States admitted it to the Union. In January 1846, Polk ordered troops to Texas to enforce claims stemming from its border dispute along the Rio Grande. Polk asked for war on May 11, 1846, and by September 1847, the United States had invaded Mexico City. Whigs, like Abraham Lincoln, found their protests sidelined, but antislavery voices were becoming more vocal and more powerful.

The Compromise of 1850 tried to offer something to everyone, but in the end it only worsened the sectional crisis. For southerners, the package offered a tough new fugitive slave law that empowered the federal government to deputize regular citizens in arresting runaways. The New Mexico Territory and the Utah Territory would be allowed to determine their own fates as slave or free states based on popular sovereignty. The compromise also allowed territories to submit suits directly to the Supreme Court over the status of freedom-seeking people within their bounds.

News is buzzing around concerning the deadly and venomous Asian giant hornets. The giant hornets, indigenous to Asia, have mysteriously traveled across the vast Pacific Ocean to North America. As of May 2020, there have only been two sightings within the United States, both of which were in Washington. The hornets were also seen in British Columbia and Vancouver Island. While many had hoped that they were runaways from the same colony, genetic testing revealed that they were not related, suggesting that multiple colonies are taking root in North America. After The New York Times published an article on their findings, panic erupted on social media as thousands flooded to Twitter, all using the hashtag #murderhornets.

The pests have also recently been seen in more of the Pacific Northwest territory. Since late 2019, there have been two more sightings of the hornets in Custer, Washington and Langley, British Columbia. The researchers recognize that the insects are not staying within the areas in which they were previously seen. American entomologists and Canadian field workers now realize that traps must be placed to cover a larger area, as the hornets continue to expand their distribution area. As of now, the most feasible explanation for how the Asian giant hornets arrived in the western hemisphere was that they came in packages and shipments from Asia.

Asian giant hornets are native to the tropical atmosphere of eastern Asia, including Japan, Sri Lanka, China, and India. In Japan, the hornets kill up to 50 people every year. The Asian giant hornets have a unique appearance; they have beady almond-shaped eyes, yellow and black stripes that wrap around the abdomen, and a yellow-orange head. Significantly larger than other wasps and hornets, a typical worker hornet is around 1.4 to 1.6 inches. A queen hornet can grow larger than two inches, making it the largest hornet in the world. 2ff7e9595c
